Who.

Born in Nottingham and fiercely proud of his Welsh roots, Cian is naturally drawn to stories that capture the essence of a place and its people.

His writing focuses on sharp, vivid characters, their relationships and the rich worlds they inhabit; treading the fine line between comedy and drama.

Cian’s last short, 'The Fools' Mate' stars BIFA winner Nell Barlow, premiered at the BAFTA/BIFA qualifying Bolton International Film Festival, won  'Best Short Film' at Cambria Film Festival, California and has garnered over 181k views since being released online in July.

Director.

Most recently Cian has written and directed, 'Music To Move You' -
a speculative Ad for Heart FM, shot on practically no budget, which has gained critical praise from advertising executives.

This year he collaborated with world renowned UK jazz singer, Ian Shaw, directing the music video to the title track of his new album, 'Greek Street Friday'.

His debut short, ‘The Outing’ gained UK and US recognition, picking up 11 Official Selections and 4 Awards including ‘Best Short Comedy’ at the Wales International Film Festival.

During 2020, Cian wrote, performed and produced, ‘The Bike’ a short film inspired by the nature of fear and anxiety in a Covid lockdown and shot entirely on an iPhone. The film went onto win ‘Best Monologue’ at the Imagine Rain Film Awards and ‘Best Covid Film’ at the Toronto Independent Film Festival of Cift.

He is currently crowdfunding for his next short, 'Duck Press'.

Training.

Cian’s work is heavily influenced by the principles and philosophies learnt whilst training at the National Youth Theatre and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Since then he has performed at the Royal Festival Hall, Petersfield Shakespeare Festival and Edinburgh Fringe; all of which have helped shape his style, and understanding of nuance in performance.

He co-created the theatre company, ‘Cian and Al’ staging witty, physical comedies such as John Mortimer’s ‘The Dock Brief’ and Michael Frayn’s ‘Matchbox Theatre’ to great acclaim. Find reviews of both productions below along with stills in the gallery.

AD.

When not directing, Cian previously worked within the AD (Assistant Director) department on commercials and high end TV dramas. He has worked alongside esteemed directors such as Steve McQueen on the critically acclaimed ‘Small Axe,’ Jonathan Glazer on his short ‘The Fall’, and James Strong on ‘Liar’, produced by Two Brothers Pictures.

Working on productions of such scale has given Cian invaluable experience which he continues to take forward in his own work.

Commercially, he’s worked for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Burberry, The Princes Trust, 02, Virgin and BT, as well as artists: The Foals, M.I.A and Travis Scott.
